Honkey Tonk and the Blues: Preds Meet St. Louis

by Jackson Walsh

The Nashville Predators come home after a 2-0-2 road trip to face the St. Louis Blues who, despite being in third, still challenge Nashville in the Central. The Blues (34-21-3, 71 points) are only four points behind the Preds (33-12-9, 75 points) in the Central Division race going into Tuesday night’s showdown but the Preds have four games in hand over the Blues. This game promises to be as loud and as brazen as the aforementioned musical styles both teams represent.

The Preds are coming off their exciting win at Montreal, while St. Louis are coming off a 4-1 loss to Pittsburgh. This will be the divisional foes first matchup of 2018, as the last time they met was at Scottrade Center on December 27, which resulted in a 2-1 triumph for Nashville.

The Preds and Blues have been fairly consistent as of late, 6-1-3 and 6-4-0 respectively in each of their last 10 games. Both teams play a very similar style of play, a deep combo of scoring (3.0 and 2.8 goals per game respectively), solid defense (2.45 and 2.51 goals against per game each), and excellent goaltending. Expect a grudge match early in the game between these two, and if one team sleeps, the other will pounce.

Both teams seem to be at even strength too, with the exception of Joel Edmundson, who is having surgery for a broken forearm. Two points count here, under the lights of Music City it will be a fast, vigorous sixty minutes.
